Thanksgiving 2016 part 1

Monday, 11/21/16

Even though last minute, we made it happen thanks to Mimi & Pap! :D The girls once again got to travel to Ohio for a few days 'on their own' without mom & dad there :) To say they were excited was an understatement! Feeling very fortunate that I did not have to work and was able to drive the 1/2 way and back.

That evening Lydia got to open her birthday present from Mimi and she was in love with her new cozy outfit :)

Which she was excited to wear that night as they all got to go to Carson's Christmas concert at school!

On Tuesday this crew went to pick up the turkey and they got to make their Tee-pee by the creek

And LeaAnn realized she lost one of her gloves ;)

That night, popcorn and a movie... and a fire of course!

On Wednesday, Mimi & Pap took all of them to the Trolls movie

and then the these 3 got to go shopping with Aunt Ashley!

And these 3 enjoyed the tee-pee some more :)

That night Chris & I arrived, Ashley brought us dinner, Donnie came down and so did Dawn & Gina and we all played cards! Super fun, no pictures of that :(

Thursday, 11/24, Ashley and I woke up early to once again participate in the 10K Cincinnati Turkey trot! It was a beautiful morning! So glad we stuck with our decision to go, b/c we did jog the whole thing, and it was just as cool as I remembered :)

 SO MANY PEOPLE... it's crazy!!

Love this downtown stretch at the beginning... even if it is up a hill :)

trying to take the picture looking down the hill... at all times there are just as many people in front of you as there are behind you!

The first bridge... just love it :)

We had a great time!

And then at home... Mimi was all set-up for Thanksgiving dinner at her house!

Should have taken pictures of our table, b/c everyone got to sit together :) even all 6 kids!

There were 'only' 15 of us, and though not 'normal' we had a wonderful time... even played cards and so did Pap!! :) And what I didn't get a picture of was all the kids down at the tee-pee with Aunt Lori and Aunt Dawn!! Lori taught them how to pop pop-corn over the fire and set them up to bake apples the next day! And boy were they excited to do that!

And this was not the day of Thanksgiving.. but here's what they continued to do everyday for hours on end!

They called themselves the 'Mar tribe' and they all had assigned 'Indian' names :)
Lauren is Swaying Grass, Lindsay is Ravens Eye, Elle is Eagle Wings, Carson is Jackope, Lydia is Crystal and LeaAnn is Baby Rose

This was on Friday, and Pap did not go down with them this morning. We watched out the window looking for smoke and he said, "they will get a much bigger sense of accomplishment if they start that fire on their own." And when I walked down... he was exactly right. They were SO proud of themselves :)

Getting ready to prep the apples

 On a trail

The tribe :D

Adding more butter to the apples... they were REALLY delicious!! Brown & white sugar and butter... baked to perfection :D

They absolutely can not wait to go back at Christmas! Their fingers are crossed that they will still be able to play in their tee-pee :)

Thanksgiving 2016 part 2

Friday, 11/25/16

The morning started off with all 6 kids back down at the tee-pee campfire, cooking apples & more popcorn thanks to Aunt Lori's suggestion on Thanksgiving! :D

They were really good!

That afternoon, Mimi found, in the newspaper :) (inside joke, Mimi wants to get rid of the paper, Pap wants to keep it) that there was public, outside ice-skating in downtown Dayton... starting at 2:30pm! How fun! And it was!!

Carson helping LeaAnn

Right along the river... it was beautiful

Just loved this backdrop!

Waiting on the Zamboni to smooth out the ice

This is always the best feeling... smooth gliding :)

And we corralled them all ONE MORE TIME... for this :) and I'm really glad we did.

A very nice lady offered to use my big camera to get us all in the picture... just missing Don & Ash!

We all warmed up with hot cocoa!

Asking Carson to smile for the picture :)

And he did!

We were wrapping up and LeaAnn found friends! She told me they asked her if they could be friends and she said, "well sure, but I don't live in Ohio" :) sweet girl

We had such a wonderful time! All 3 girls said they wanted to go back every year to that rink! :) We ended the night eating Cassano's in Middletown and Ashley got to join us. A perfect ending to a wonderful day!

Saturday, 11/26 - the Ohio State / Michigan game was on and we went to Mendi & Brian's to watch it! Carson had a soccer game, Mimi took the girls to Bartel's to get a wreath, and once at Mendi's, the girls were bored so they drove the Gator over to Tara's house and decorated for Christmas! :D She was tickled with all that they came up with <3
That night, Mimi & Pap took all 6 kids to Niederman's and that was the end of our Thanksgiving in Ohio... thank you Mimi & Pap for everything! We had a wonderful time!
