our day at the Buchanan County Fair 2013

One of Grammy's many talents is her love and gift of flowers. She is heavily involved in the Quasky Garden Club, and one of the events they have during the year, is a flower show at the BC fair. This year they had a 'kids-day' where children could come in with nothing, and make a flower arrangement or creative-critter with all the necessities provided. What a great idea! Normally we try and make it over to Jeanette's, use her flowers, vases, vegetables, etc and then drive the completed projects to Independence. The garden club's new idea... perfect! So much easier and many more kids got involved.! So here we are :)

Lydia was insistent we start with the flowers first... she adores them and it's first on her to-do list at Grammy's is pick flowers.

Here the girls' entered into the flower show a tea pot with plants that they had helped Grammy with earlier this summer.

Had to take a picture of Grammy's overall, 'Best of Show' flower :)  This Lilly was so perfect, I believe it was one of two of all entries to win 'overall'. And a side tid-bit, this was a Lilly that we had given her for a mother's day gift one year :D

Working on critters... they are my favorite :)

Poor Lydia, looks like she got in a fight! She had a bug bite on her eye and it swelled up.

THIS was my favorite :) LeaAnn, being LeaAnn, decided that she'd rather eat the ingredients rather than make a critter... but we used it anyway. Isn't her bit a perfect mouth?? ;)

They also  had painting set up where you could buy a birdhouse or another craft for $3 and paint it... these three had a great time.

We did walk around and look at all the animals before eating lunch. They had these cute signs up :)

The bunnies were a huge hit... I text'd King-Dad and said, we want goats & bunnies... and he said, "nice try!"

LeaAnn liked the chickens & roosters the most... go figure. :)

I really, really want a goat. I think they're so cute and would be easy to manage, and the kids could play with them! We'll see what happens...

Overall we had a really nice time, even ate lunch without too much of a fuss :) Will be very interesting to see what fair is like NEXT year as Lauren is old enough for 4H!
