Lauren's Images of Greatness & she won money at school!

Lauren has been working on this project all. year. Not kidding :) She was asked to be in the extended Language Arts & Math programs at the beginning of the year, which has also encouraged to her to read an enormous amount of challenging books so that she could enter into the Battle of the Books competition, which she did! They placed 8th (I believe) out of 30 teams which was great! This project is called Images of Greatness, and each student is to pick a famous person to research, become, dress like and give answers as if they were the famous person. Lauren chose Laura Ingalls Wilder... whose daughter is she?! ;)  It started with the dress which Grammy lovingly offered to make for her :)

I believe this is where the parents are guessing who is who :) It was really fun. And I'm taping and taking pictures again at the same time, with LeaAnn on my lap... so I apologize in advance for the taping!

Then they had to answer questions about themselves from questions in the audience! A memorized line, and they all did fantastic!

However, during this presentation, Suzie Cook offered to take pics while I videoed :)

OK... so her demonstration was making a corn husk doll... great, sure, no problem. :) All the things I did not know were A. not everyone was giving a demonstration, B. Lauren self-taught herself how to make one off of a YouTube video (I thought Grammy showed her) and C. that she was going to practice at school! The truth of all of this was, there were only 2 demos given, she was the sole teacher on how to make the doll :) and Mrs. B told me after the program, "Oh Lauren is so responsible, I knew she'd pull it off, she never even practiced at school!"
So impressed Lauren, and you did an amazing job!

However, I must mention that this also was not without her patient & loving dad. He helped coach her through it on Sunday when it was all getting a little overwhelming... and then again on Wednesday night before the presentation on Thursday... such a sweet guy :)

Phew! Done! :) You did an amazing job Lauren Dorothy!

The other demo was Harmony singing, Shake it Off by Taylor Swift... she is a brave girl!!!

She painted the background (all on her own), cut out the stencils to spell her name, printed out the pictures, drew the cover of a book...

And put together this HUGE timeline!!

All on her own. SO much work and she did such an amazing job.

Forgot to put this in here the first time around... for working hard and following in her father's foot-steps ;) Lauren was the top seller in the 4th & 5th grades selling Buc cards! It was to raise money for their camping trip as 5th graders next year. She had 4 envelopes all with chances to win money! Abbey Thurn (her teacher) took and sent me these pics, thank you Abbey!

And she walked away with $50!!!

And b/c all of them did so well selling, they had a pizza party for both grades (normally it's just for those who sell) - so THANK YOU to all who bought and supported them! :)
